Remediation Project Management: Strategies and Tips for Success

Simon and Harriet are Committee Members of the Association for Project Management, which has recently launched in Guernsey. Alongside providing an introduction to the APM, they will also share insights into designing and running successful remediation projects, together with some practical tips based on recent experience. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A.

The Talk

Simon and Harriet are Committee Members of the Association for Project Management, which has recently launched in Guernsey. Harriet Gowan

Harriet is a Director at Teneo, having joined as part of the acquisition from Deloitte in June 2021. In the last five years, she has designed and run a number of successful remediation programmes for Guernsey and Jersey-based Corporate Service Providers. She runs the Regulatory Transformation offering for Teneo and specialises in helping organisations to navigate complex and often high-pressure regulatory demands.

Prior to working for Teneo, Harriet worked for the Financial Investigation Unit, where she was involved in a number of high profile fraud and money laundering cases. Latterly, she became the manager of the Hi-Tech crime unit and was a member of the project team that set up the inaugural Asset Recovery Team.

Before moving back to Guernsey in 2014, Harriet worked for BAE Systems Digital Intelligence as an Operations and Project Manager. She worked on a number of mission critical engagements including for the Foreign Office and Ministry of Justice, before joining the Engineering Division as an Operations Manager.

Harriet is married to Ed and they have two boys, Dexter (10) and Benjamin (6).

Simon Tidd

Simon is an experienced senior operations and project management professional. He has success leading teams in high pressure environments in both the public and private sectors. Simon has an MBA from a top European business school, holds a Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification and sits on the Channel Island Committee for the Association for Project Management.

After a short period in the finance industry post university, Simon joined the British Army, serving in operational and then junior staff roles, as a tank commander, communications and IT planning officer, and executive assistant to a senior leader; including three tours in Iraq or Afghanistan Simon left the Army in 2009 and enrolled on a full-time MBA at Warwick Business School which he graduated with distinction from in 2010. He joined a consultancy firm specialising in strategic transformation programmes before leaving to work on a contract for the Royal family in 2012 during the London Olympics and Diamond Jubilee. After this contract, he worked for two years at Warwickshire County Council, establishing their Joint Strategic Needs Assessment Programme to help inform commissioning, after the biggest shake up in healthcare commissioning in decades.

Since 2014 Simon has work in the Channel Islands, with the exception of a brief spell in Lebanon with his wife to establish a cultural NGO. His work focuses on the development of project management and business analysis capabilities, and the direct delivery of complex projects and programmes. He has run projects in multiple local finance organisations, including a “handbook remediation” project for a local bank and trust company. He is currently working for Healthspan as their head of projects and business intelligence.

Simon is married to Hala, and they have a two-year-old son Michael-Aref.
